ANDREW DONOHOE

Born in 1964, he lives and works from his home studio in south eastern Tasmania, Australia, in the beautiful Huon Valley.

A self taught artist, he is primarily a printmaker, most often working in relief, generally linocuts. More recently he has began working with digital analogue plates for waterless lithography combined with monoprints, drawings and photography.

Much of his work is influenced by the environment and conservation issues relating to the ongoing logging of forests in Tasmania. This has been a divisive issue in Tasmania for decades. Places such as the Florentine and Weld Valley feature prominently in his work. Some work is used by environmental groups to raise money as designs for T-shirts, etc.

Andrew regularly exhibits in group shows in Tasmania and in other Australian states, and also has held solo exhibitions. In 2010 he worked in Buenos Aires, Argentina, completing a residency at Proyecto 'ace culminating in a solo exhibition, Sentir con los Ojos. In 2011 he returned to work at Proyecto 'ace once again in the medium of waterless lithography, developing new work.

He has been a finalist in the Silkcut Award for Linocut prints and also won an acquisitive award in 2009 for the work Farewell Old Florentine Friends. In 2011 he was awarded first prize in 'Prints for Peace' Monterrey, Mexico, and was also a finalist in the Hutchence prize for works on paper in Hobart, Tasmania.

Andrew is a member of 'The Hunter Island Press', an open access print studio located in Hobart, and has participated in various group exhibitions and projects associated with the group. He is represented by Handmark Gallery in Hobart, Tasmania, and Port Jackson Press in Melbourne, Victoria.

Andrew’s work is in private collections in Australia and Internationally.
